WINTER WARDROBE

“धीरे धीरे रे मना, धीरे सब कुछ होय.” – कबीर
Some things unfold only with time. Winter teaches us that.

It arrives as the sun softens, as the air thickens with cardamom and smoke, as hands move slower. Days stretch open. Every act becomes a little ceremony of warmth.

And every action belies years of small rituals, passed down from generation to generation.

Sitting on the floor near a heater, peeling oranges slowly. Letting the sun warm your back while you read. Wool pulled from trunks, achaar jars turned in the sun, chai brewed a little stronger, blankets aired on terraces. All the small rituals of winter, nestled in every home, every memory.

The season asks us to slow down. They remind us that warmth is something we make with our hands, our time, and our attention.

We were drawn to this feeling. To the idea that process itself is an act of love.

It shapes everything worth keeping.

Each piece in our Winter Wardrobe ‘25 carries the rhythm of making; from our hand-sown labels to each seam, stitched with care.

THE TRADITION OF SLOW WINTERS

In many parts of North and Eastern India, the month of paush (from mid-December to mid- January) is known as the season “when even the gods slow down.” And while that line sounds poetic today, it actually comes from a centuries-old understanding of the agricultural calendar and the cycles of the seasons and the body.

Traditionally, paush is the pause between two worlds: the harvest of the kharif crops is complete, and the sowing of the rabi crops is still a little time away. The fields are resting, the seeds are resting, and so are the people. In fact, this is why many regions believe that working too hard during paush “weakens” the blessings for the year ahead.

In Bengal, paush was known as a nishkriya maash, or the month of “less doing.” Households avoided starting new ventures, and farmers refrained from making drastic changes to their land. Instead, paush became a month for quieter rituals: cleaning the grain stores, mending broken implements, airing out woollen bedding and similar activities that encouraged observation and reflection.

Anthropologists often describe paush as India’s “original period of intentional living.” It is the only month that explicitly discourages haste. It is a season that rewards patience and process, a reminder that good things unfold only when they are given the time they need.

THE NEW WINTER CLASSICS

These are the new winter classics. Each one shaped with intention, and the love of the process. Our designer wool jackets for women lean into this philosophy through simple lines that form a structured silhouette, that is nonetheless not harsh in its nature. The designer wool sets for women and premium wool layering outfits move easily through the day, adapting easily from soft afternoon sun to cool evening air – from AM to PM. And the designer wool cape jackets flow gently, almost like winter light shifting across a room.
All of these pieces sit within the wider vision of the AMPM woolen collection, a quiet world shaped thoughtfully for the winter season.

We believe that each year’s winter wardrobe should be built slowly, piece by piece, becoming a little ritual for the season in itself. Pulling out sweaters from under the bed, rediscovering our mothers’ shawls – these winter classics are made in that spirit. Pieces that don’t chase trends, but settle into your life quietly. Pieces that feel as familiar as a winter sunbeam on the floor, and just as steady.
